Things to Do Before You Travel - Three Weeks Before You Leave

Please forgive me, I know I am posting a Tuesday travel tip on Wednesday (gasp), but I was busy making a 40th birthday shirt for my hubby and time got away from me. (I promise I will post pictures of him in his shirt after his birthday). So without any further delay, I bring you a list of tasks that should be done 3 weeks before you leave for an extended trip. These tasks will help make the time leading up to the trip and the time you are gone much more enjoyable.

As soon as your vacation has been confirmed: 1. Do some research on the destination you'll be visiting. This is especially important to start your research early if you are planning foreign travel for the first time. I have plenty of good links to help you with your research - just ask!

2. Take care of medical and dental checkups and vaccinations if necessary. Not sure if what you need? You can view a list of requirements here.

3. If you haven't done so when booking your trip, consider purchasing Travel Insurance... especially if you are traveling outside of your home country. Your personal health insurance WILL NOT cover you in a foreign company, but most travel insurance plans will. It will also protect you in the unfortunate event that you are not able to travel at your scheduled time.

Things to do three weeks before you travel.

1. Watch the weather, so you'll know what to expect and can pack accordingly.

2. Check with your credit card company for available spending amount; ask your bank for an increase if needed. Don't forget about the deposits that will be charged and leave some room on the card for emergencies.

3. Check the valid dates on your credit card to make sure they will remain valid while you're traveling.

4. Notify the Credit Card Company that you'll be traveling, so they will expect charges from your destination.

5. Check your ATM and debit card for both daily and total limits.

6. Remember your PIN numbers or get new ones issued for all your credit, debit, ATM and phone cards.

7. Check your drivers license to make sure it will remain valid while you're traveling.

8. Check cameras, purchase new batteries if necessary, and film.

9. Make an arrangement with a neighbor, friend or relative to check your home periodically.

10. If a friend or neighbor cannot collect your mail, make arrangements for it to be held at the Post Office.

11. Arrange care for your pets.

12. Start breaking in the shoes you'll be taking with you on your trip, you don't want to suffer with blisters while you are gone!

13. Add some yogurt to your diet to strengthen your digestive system. This is especially important if your plans include travel to foreign countries where you will be exposed to ingredients that are different from your normal diet.

14. Also consider adding a vitamin C Supplement to your daily routine to build up your immune system. I'd be happy to recommend a few that I like!

Check back in next week where I will share what to do 2 weeks before you travel.

Do you have any other items that you think should be added to the list? Please share in the comments.
